THE
HOMELAB.

Enterprise hardware. Home-sized ambitions.

A Dell PowerEdge, an Unraid array, enough containers to keep me entertained, and a list of things that still need fixing.

02 / The array

46 TERABYTES.

Unraid manages the storage, with a separate parity disk and SSD cache.

Reported array capacity
45.9 TB

Five data disks: four 10 TB drives and one 6 TB drive. The 10 TB parity disk is separate from the data capacity.

The bars show relative drive capacity, not utilization. Parity protects against a drive failure; it isn't a backup.

03 / What runs here

THE WORKLOADS.

01 / WORKLOAD

Media

Plex and Emby, with Sonarr, Radarr and Seerr helping organize the library.

02 / WORKLOAD

Monitoring

Prometheus, Grafana, cAdvisor and Node Exporter keep tabs on the host and containers.

03 / WORKLOAD

Networking

NGINX Proxy Manager handles reverse-proxy routing. I use Ubiquiti networking alongside the server.

04 / WORKLOAD

Development

MotoGarage runs in its own Ubuntu VM. IRON_GATE is another project living in the lab.

04 / How I use it

CONTAINERS & VMs.

Unraid host

Docker

The media stack, monitoring tools, reverse proxy, and other self-hosted services run as containers. Some monitoring components are grouped in a Docker Compose stack.

Ubuntu virtual machine

MotoGarage

My motorcycle maintenance app runs in a separate Ubuntu VM allocated four virtual CPUs and 4 GiB of RAM. That keeps application development separate from the host's other workloads.

THE PROJECTS.

The same server hosts the tools that help me build the next thing. Some projects are running; others are still taking shape.
